Day 1: ARRIVAL
Your journey begins with your individual arrival in Keflavík, Iceland. After arrival, you will collect your rental car at the airport (to be booked separately). Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
Day 2: ÞINGVELLIR – GULLFOSS – GEYSIR
Today you explore Iceland’s famous Golden Circle. In Þingvellir National Park, you will see the fascinating meeting point of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, which are slowly moving apart. Continue to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most spectacular natural attractions. The final highlight of the Golden Circle is the famous Geysir geothermal area. While the original geyser that gave all geysers their name is mostly dormant, its smaller neighbour Strokkur regularly erupts, sending a powerful column of boiling water into the air. End the day with a relaxing visit to the nearby Secret Lagoon (entrance fee not included). Overnight stay in the Selfoss area.
Day 3: THE SOUTH COAST
Today you discover the stunning south coast of Iceland. Along the way, visit the impressive waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. The small town of Vík marks the southernmost point of Iceland. Take a walk along the famous black sand beach Reynisfjara or visit the dramatic cliffs of Dyrhólaey. Overnight stay in Vík or Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Day 4: VATNAJÖKULL – JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON
Drive along the impressive Vatnajökull glacier, the third-largest glacier in the world, towards the spectacular Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Here you can admire more than 1,000-year-old icebergs floating in the lagoon, broken off from a nearby glacier tongue. Overnight stay as the previous night.
Day 5: SOUTH COAST – REYKJAVÍK
On your way back towards Iceland’s capital, you have the opportunity to revisit and explore any highlights along the south coast that you may have missed on the outward journey. Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
Day 6: BORGARFJÖRÐUR – LAVA WATERFALLS
Start the day with a scenic drive around the beautiful Hvalfjörður fjord, once the centre of Iceland’s whaling industry. Continue to Borgarfjörður, an area rich in history and featured in many Icelandic sagas. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. The journey continues to the picturesque Hraunfossar lava waterfalls, where crystal-clear water flows through layers of lava rock. Return to Reykjavík through the impressive Hvalfjörður tunnel. Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
Day 7: REYKJANES PENINSULA
Today you explore the beautiful Reykjanes Peninsula. The route takes you to the geothermal area of Gunnuhver, the colourful geothermal fields of Krýsuvík, the famous Blue Lagoon, and Iceland’s oldest lighthouse. Overnight stay in Keflavík.
Day 8: DEPARTURE
On your final day, drive to the airport and return your rental car before beginning your journey home. Alternatively, you may choose to continue your travels independently. Please note: The itinerary may be subject to change due to weather or road conditions.
