Woodbury Tented Camp is located in the heart of the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape – a classic safari camp that harmoniously combines comfort and nature experiences. Surrounded by vast savannahs and the Bushman's River, it is the perfect retreat for anyone looking for unforgettable wildlife viewing and a genuine wilderness atmosphere.
Location
The camp is located in one of South Africa's most famous game reserves, about an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). Its location in the heart of the reserve allows for direct encounters with Africa's fascinating wildlife – from elephants and buffalos to lions, leopards, and rhinos. The surrounding area is characterized by open grasslands, acacia trees, and fascinating bush landscapes that also attract numerous bird species.
Facilities
Woodbury Tented Camp is a small, privately run safari camp that combines an authentic bush experience with comfortable amenities. The central lounge and dining area, with its thatched roof and canvas elements, opens onto a spacious viewing deck overlooking the vast plains of the Amakhala Game Reserve. A swimming pool with a sunbathing area invites you to relax between game drives. All meals and twice-daily guided game drives are included in your stay. Wi-Fi is available in public areas, and the open design of the camp ensures close proximity to nature and wildlife.
The room rate includes meals, selected house beverages, and two game drives per day.
Rooms
- Luxury Safari Tent: The classic safari tents at Woodbury Tented Camp are set on raised wooden platforms and offer an authentic, nature-oriented living experience. Each tent is comfortably furnished with king-size or twin beds, a private bathroom with hot shower, electricity, and a private terrace overlooking the surrounding bush landscape. The open design ensures closeness to nature, while mosquito nets and solid canvas elements create a protected and pleasant indoor climate.
- Luxury Family Tent: Larger tent combinations are available for families or guests traveling together. These consist of two separate safari tents connected by a shared wooden deck, offering more space and additional privacy. The family tents have the same high-quality basic amenities as the standard tents and are ideal for guests who are looking for a shared safari experience without having to sacrifice comfort or privacy. (Children are only allowed at Woodbury Tented Camp from the age of 6).

Wi-Fi is only available in the public areas of the camp.
Sports & Wellness
The sun deck and two outdoor pools invite you to relax between game drives.
Optional activities are also available (some at an additional cost), such as guided bush walks, bird watching excursions, canoe trips on the Bushman's River, or picnics in the wilderness—ideal for active nature and adventure lovers.
Board
The camp serves a mix of traditional and regionally inspired dishes in the central dining area or on the spacious terrace overlooking the savannah. Main meals include a hearty breakfast, lunch, and dinner—mostly freshly prepared and offered in buffet or menu form. In the evening, dinner can often be enjoyed in an open boma-style setting or under the starry sky, accompanied by conversations around the campfire or at the bar. Snacks and drinks are also offered during game drives.

Safari-Program
The safari programs at Woodbury Tented Camp offer guests an authentic Big 5 experience in the malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve. The stay usually includes two guided game drives per day (morning and afternoon), during which experienced rangers take guests on wildlife viewing tours in open 4×4 vehicles and, with a little luck, show them elephants, rhinos, lions, buffalos, and other fascinating wild animals.
